winter's last stab

image winterís not quite over yet. in one last attempt at a true winter, the snow started falling last night, so now we have about an inch of snow on everything. even though you can't see it in this photo, the snow was falling in huge flakes over the creek. i love the sound of heavy snowfall, but i'm grateful that we donít generally get much snow around here. pretty much any amount we get always seems like a big deal; however, itís a little isolating because now iím stuck in our little valley because our only 4-wheel drive is broken down. iíve consistently neglected to buy chains the last few years, and i canít afford studded tires. itís so pretty with the snow blanketing everything. at least itís not raining any more! the creek came back up a few inches yesterday after a torrential downpour. thankfully itís not even close to how high it was in december, but itís possible that weíll have more flooding this spring.

image in the meantime, iíve been working on some knitting projects. iíve got enough sock yarn to last me for a good long time, and iíve currently got two pairs of socks in the works. iíve also been working on using up some of my old wool making little hand-warmer creatures. i found the pattern for this one on the web at, and i really like it! i plan on making a couple more of these little creatures to use up some more of my old wool. i also have plans to buy some non-wool bulky yarn to make myself a sweater. iím leaning toward lion brand yarn because itís affordable and only part wool. i really love the burley spun yarn from brown sheep, but alas iím so terribly allergic to wool i canít wear it at all.

right, i really donít have much else to say. i may be getting a job soon, but itís still up in the air. iíve got my fingers crossed because if it works out itíll be the best paying job iíve ever had. itís about time i get a decent opportunity after over twelve years out of graduate school. if youíre out there and you happen to care, wish me luck!

quote of the moment:

Legislative interference with the habits of the people produces the sneak, the spy, the fanatic, and the artful dodger. Take finance! Swindling has become a fine art and is practised on a gigantic scale in ways which would have been impossible when there were no laws intended to protect the public.
-Aleister Crowley
